Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University today. The killer was not immediately caught. The Higher Education Inquirer has been covering Kirk and his organization, Turning Point USA, since 2016. Kirk has been a polarizing force in the United States, particularly on US college campuses. HEI hopes this event will not lead to further violence. Since its inception, we have urged for peace and nonviolence.
As Pro-Western Media would say about Anti-Western / Non-Western countries, we are getting even closer to a Western World spring with the same proportions as the Arab Spring or as the 2025 Anti-Government Nepalese protests. I just hope we can stay safe during and after that, and that the West is not going to become like Sisi's Egypt or like Jolani's Syria...
ReplyDeleteThe escalation of violence will continue until there is an organized party for labor, the dispossessed, the unemployed and the elderly and disabled. America has become a hideous, nightmare alley. Only if we learn to work collectively, understand that the US is an Empire and one in decline--- only when we leave the chloroformed alley of social and personal denial and enter into the admission --- capitalism is killing the US and planet, can such incidents ebb.
ReplyDeleteAs you say, Kirk was a polarizing figure, to say the least, but killing him will certainly lead to retaliation.
I too have written extensively about Kirk since his 'coming out' in 2016.
The fascists, of which Kirk was one, will blame the 'so-called left', of which there is none and the so-called left will blame the fascists of which there are many --- one less now.
This is simply the beginning.
Nothing good can come of this with a corporate media that lies and obfuscates.
Trump will honor him as a hero or foot soldier while advancing his fascist agenda.
The material conditions are obvious, transnational capitalism is failing worldwide.
What is so lacking is class consciousness.
Without class consciousness there will be civil war, not class war which is being waged against us the ruling class each day.
