Since 1970, Indigenous people & their allies have gathered at noon on Cole's Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the US Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native people do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims & other European settlers. Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of Native people, the theft of Native lands and the erasure of Native cultures. Participants in National Day of Mourning honor Indigenous ancestors and Native resilience. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection, as well as a protest against the racism and oppression that Indigenous people continue to experience worldwide.
Join us as we continue to create a true awareness of Native peoples and history. Help shatter the untrue image of the Pilgrims, and the unjust system based on white supremacy, settler colonialism, sexism, homophobia and the profit-driven destruction of the Earth that they and other European settlers introduced to these shores.

Odd how the major media outlet in Boston GBH 89.7 GBH BPR, has said/done NOTHING/nada about National Day of Mourning,For crying out loud, the Mashepee Wampanoug tribe are all over Massachusetts!! Yet I'm sure the have NEVEr,like ever had teh head of the non profit that started the National Day of Mourning in 1970 was it? Jim braude/Margery Eagan,th ehosts of Boston Piblic Radio should be ashamed of themselves for rarely if ever, having representatives of teh natives tribes of New England on the program.
ReplyDeleteFeel free to ask their fairly new CEO Ms Susan Goldberg, why is that, that they are utterly oblivious to the needs/concerns/rights of Native American/indigenous peoples?native American.how about doing a story on Native American reparations. They are living/working/existing on Native Land for crying out land.
They seem to be VERY skittish to take on hponestly talk about sensitive subjects as a rule,Maybe bring it up right before their yet ANOTHER pledge fund drive, and say maybe if you actually showed that you actually care/understand about the issue by giving the issue air time.walk the talk,gbh/bpr walk the talk, all I'm saying!
That's to be expected. And it's likely to worsen if there are more government cuts to NPR.
